Asger Juel Larsen is a storyteller. Inspired by romance, warfare, and gothic dystopia, the Nordic dreamer’s aesthetic is based on an ideal of “psychotic sophistication”, for which his garments read like pages in a fable. A graduate of the London College of Fashion, and former intern at John Richmond and Burberry, mark his early beginnings. Now alongside his remarkable genius and enviable design, Asger Juel Larsen is quickly becoming one of fashions most famous unknowns. Ask Justin Bieber who was spotted wearing the ‘Abulurd’ perforated hoodie in white from the Asger Juel Larsen Spring 2014 collection, last month.
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection, “A Triple Distilled Dream” at Copenhagen Fashion Week, was inspired by what Larsen described as a “dream land of athletic rock and roll.” Where its residents are restricted from imagination and whose protagonists are a rebellious lot of hell raisers who refuse to tolerate the status quo. Whether it be: the eye candy of gold and black clockwork printed jackets (looks that wave to steampunk), sensational white mesh boxing garb or monochrome gold and black uniforms that make insanity seem effortless, the clothing is as interesting as Larsen’s stories are fantastical.
