Disruption, experimentation, and eclecticism are three key words to remember about the innovative menswear label, D.GNAK by KANG.D. Creator, designer, and Parsons The New School of Design graduate Kang Dong Jun knows how to create twisted garments with an eye for achromatic colors. Inspired by the extremely important aspect of forgotten, accidental everyday beauty of the city, innovating design, and digital art D.GNAK strives for minimalism. Whether it be within music, nature, film, or repetition D.GNAK strives for minimalism and mystique while still making a strong relationship with the wearer.
The S/S 15 collection opens with Space Pong by T++ pounding, a state of the art techno song which helps introduce the achromatically clothed models. The ultimate theme of this collection has to be pushing mens layering boundaries, with a gothic futuristic vision. Underneath sweaters or jackets long white crossed collared shirts appear. Oversized ponchos and skirt like trousers over paneled pants. Heavy combat-esque boots or a fresh darker take on the normal men’s chelsea boots. All of these looks have an edge, a piece of flair to them. Your eye instantly goes to the layered pieces as they seamlessly flow with the rest of the collection.
Even on the runway the galactic paneling in the background helps the models transform into a different dimension. Where layering is a norm and shiny textures rule. Moreover, the look for S/S 15 has many key pieces. An oversized white collared shirt, a pivtal blazer, printed shirts, striped ponchos, and a cross between combat boots and sneakers. Grungy, futuristic, avant-garde D.GNAK is ultimately pushing mens boundaries to really invigorate fashion.
