With her massively talked about graduation collection only six months behind her, Melitta Baumeister, the German born NYC-based designer, lit up the runways once again in her highly anticipated sophomore collection. Continuing to demonstrate her innovative ways of creating common shapes, Baumeister crafted feminine silhouettes while still keeping with her futuristic monochromatic style she is quickly becoming known for. Cotton-bonded jersey tops offering a sweetheart neckline and soft waist cutouts were accompanied by slightly waved full skirts and high-waist pleated culottes, creating an avant-garde ‘New Look’.
Vaguely hinting at colors–less the few black ensembles–Baumeister scarcely tinted voluminous collared tops, multi-folded strapless crops, wide ankle length skirts, and chest-baring maxi dresses in barely-there peach and icy blue. Rounding out the collection, a trio of sheer neoprene dresses, emanating a heavenly aura, delicately floated on the models.
