Hailing from Paris, a city renowned for being the birthplace of many of the oldest and most respected fashion houses, Wanda Nylon brings a fresh new concept to an arena of giants who have reigned for decades. Founders Johanna Senyk, a seasoned brand consultant and fashion professional, and Peter Hornstein, a graduate from the celebrated Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium and specialist in high tech materials, combine their vast knowledge to create a brand that can easily be described as possessing a sophisticated youthfulness.
Wanda Nylon’s ingenuity is shown not only through the use of innovative tech fabrics but also in the way in which such fabrics are used. For their Spring Summer 2015 men’s collection, Senyk and Hornstein vary textures using the interplay of light on reflective metallic textiles–in a palette of primary colors to offset the refined detailing in trousers, drawstring parkas, and raglan sleeve crewnecks. Drawstring basketball shorts become more than active wear in coated cotton and silver nylon. Nylon shorts paired with matching bomber jackets impress with their playful creativity. This creativity extends beyond the details of each individual garment lending itself the cohesion of the collection as a whole. The cohesiveness is proof that Senyk and Hornstein use their seasoned expertise to create a collection that considers the styling of a completed look to be just as important as each standalone piece.
Through combined efforts, the textile savvy fashion veterans have created a label that can be classified with the “New School” of French design that embraces a fresh idea by pushing innovation to the epicenter of their designs. Focusing on fabric development will allow the reinvention textiles to become their unique signature from season to season.
