The Human Body: Shao Yen Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

Women, Fashion, Lookbook, Runway

When I first heard of the Shao Yen’s inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2016 collection – joints and muscles of the human body – my stomach turned, and I braced myself for my day to take a turn for the grotesque. But Yen’s musings on the human body were anything but; he reinterpreted muscles and joints into ripped silks and wools with a poetic beauty. His Paris Fashion Week presentation showed off his mastery of fabrics as silk was twisted to reflect the movement of a joint, and knits were frayed to take on the feeling of distressed denim. Yen even managed to freshen up the leopard print by creating the print that perfectly captured the spots in a pseudo-photographic motion.
