A Poet’s Journey: Alighieri Jewelry Spring/Summer 2016 Collection

Women, Fashion, Campaigns, Collections

Leering faces of tortured souls and their demon tormentors, serpentine heads and scales, and gold coins reminiscent of Rome in its Antiquity are among the images portrayed in Alighieri jewelry, a collection of fine pieces designed by London-based Rosh Mahtani. Mahtani studied Italian literature at Oxford and was struck by the imagery of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, so much that she created Alighieri, inspired by characters and interactions within the Comedia. Alighieri tells the tale of Dante’s journey through the Afterworld, depicting the ferocious lion of the poet’s opening canto in a choker-style pendant and weathered cuffs that could bind a spirit to its eternal punishment, to a pearl embedded within a shield of gold, symbolizing Dante’s guide and muse, the immortal Beatrice. Matchless in quality and creativity, Alighieri’s collection contains a story in every piece to inspire the imagination and capture the eye.
