I’m not addicted to drugs, I’m addicted to glamour: only their fourth time showing in New York, A-R-E-A’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection made quite the glamour-y impact. The idea of what defines femininity was seen throughout and was the source of inspiration that branched into traditional femininity, femme and drag which brought together a plethora of ideas. In collaboration with Swarovski, Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk, the duo behind A-R-E-A, crystals were seen as pinstripes on suits, stitching on large, robe jackets and bondage like features.
Welcome to A-R-E-A’s glamour: a deep purple dress featuring cut outs and a mean slit was certainly daring. A deep beige, one-shoulder dress featured Swarovski elements in red, green and white in funky little shapes. Groovy, baby. Menswear featured denim separates, the showstopper being a knee length denim jacket lined with fur. The women’s stole the show however: a brown, thermal top with exaggerated bell sleeves was paired with mustard-y beige pants with an exaggerated bell that was cinched tight via stitching flared out starting at the ankle. In all, A-R-E-A may be a newcomer, but they certainly earned their spot through innovation, sexiness and wearability.
