I’m not sure to whom Kaelen Haworth was writing a love letter two this afternoon. Maybe to the summer’s days that will soon be behind us. Maybe to a love story she once knew. No matter the circumstance, the designer’s Spring/Summer 2017 showing of her eponymous line KAELEN was a love story. Silk, crepe, linen, and stretch jersey were transformed into romanticized, feminine silhouettes. The entire collection played host to a dichotomous relationship between minimalism and maximalism. Refined, feminine silhouettes were the canvas for elephantine finishings. A body hugging midi dress was finished in a loud and proud floral print. Oversized bouncing ruffles and bows took over a linen slip dress. On a linen shift and midi skirt outfit – accordion pleats and bell sleeves were the finishing touches. Several virginal white shift dresses were slashed and sewn back together with perfect x-marks-the –spots. Don’t let that picture street you wrong though – for a collection that was romantic, feminine, and provingly comprehensive of times past, it didn’t skew at all nostalgic. Instead, it was charmingly fresh.
