Under the fleeting sun of the first days of a New York fall, designer Jerome Lamaar opted to whisk the fashion folk away for his Spring/Summer offerings. In the same thread of opulence that the Bronx-based has poured into his new collection, his Spring/Summer 2017 collection was an all-expenses paid journey to the tropics. Exhibitionistic looks were styled to new heights: a cropped snow-white sweatsuit was topped with a goose feather coat, while army coats were belted and bedazzled into flashy mini dresses. A sequined frock and plush pink rooster feather coat were finished off with brushed silver hoop earrings the size of a small hoola hope. Straw hats of tourist-sized proportions were almost relaxed in comparison to jackets adorned with over-the-top patches of illustrated tigers and jeweled fern leaves. But it as much as the collection was a feat of glitz and glamour, Lamaar has a way of weaving his brand of maximalist glamour into a collection that seems just as at home in our day-to-day wear as it does on a private isle.
