Gender Codes: GAUCHERE Spring/Summer 2017 PFW

Women, Fashion, Collections, Runway

This season explored Marie-Christine Statz’s feminine silhouettes through the contradictions of classic menswear tailoring and fabrics, sending out a mixture of fitted and oversized garments onto the Spring/Summer 2017 catwalk. She complemented this introduction of new masculine aesthetics with several shocking sportswear moments. Disrupting her collection of fresh elegance and the quintessentially French notion of savoir-faire (something her label has been perfecting since its debut in 2012) were strong, structured fabrics like wool, denim and technical cotton that balanced softer, lighter fabrics such as crepe, light cotton and linen jersey. Together, they resulted in a line undeniably masculine yet simultaneously fluid and feminine. But, it was the fitted dresses and trousers, which when combined with oversized parkas and jackets, that pulled the complete look together for a remarkable play on gender codes.
