For the years since Etudes inception, the design duo has constantly looked to a certain shade of cerulean to dominate their collections, opting for blacks and neutrals to compliment the heavily-pigmented hue. This color has brought itself down into Etudes multi-disciplinary approach, the bold hue of blue translates into the duo’s print magazine and other multi-disciplinary projects. But this season, blue didn’t take centerstage. Instead, a multitude of colors transformed the Paris-via-New York designer’s series of basics. Slouched pinstripe suiting was paired with an upscale riff on the hawaiian silk shirt. Oversized knit sweaters engulfed models, emblazoned with white, blue, and yellow flowers. Languid marigold hues, finished in sheening satin and silk, were the star of the collection – being translated into button-up shirts and trousers. Oversized was the key to the collection – simple everyday wear was pushed to the limited, enveloping the body and pushing away from the form of the figure. Scarves didn’t just protect the neck from the cold – they brushed against the floor.
Although Etudes has made such a name for themselves playing off its signature shade of blue, this melange of colors they proposed for Fall/Winter 2017 gave the brand such a boost on their already sky-high trajectory.
