On February 10th, Carolina Sarria and artist Katya Zvereva presented an art installation and runway show entitled LOVE that explored passion within sex, violence within war, and tranquility through peace. LOVE went through the merging of three significant aspects that form the circle of love by shining the light on key elements that people go through when experiencing the feeling of love. Large scale woodcuts of Katya’s work were on display on separates made by Sarria. While there were separates for men and women, the overall collaboration was indeed unisex: kimonos, bombers, puffer jackers and trousers in luxurious wools, denim, cow skin as well as lambskin were the dominant materials used amongst a mainly monochromatic color palette with hints of red and pink. Sarria’s technique of making a collection for both sexes allows for the wearer to dress in a modern sense without any sort of limit — just as when one loves, it is limitless. We are One. Printed A-line dresses as well as blouses with elongated flared arms give way to a more tranquil, peaceful setting. However, patent leather trousers and the inclusion of red stitch details on several separates show a more contrasting, animalistic turn. Sarria takes Katya’s artwork and displays what the heart can never avoid when it comes to LOVE: the good is as pure as the evil.
Sarria herself shows a bit of her dark side in select pieces from her Fall/Winter 2017 collection that are outside of the collaboration. Leather, wide-leg trousers featuring slits and oversized d-ring details along with leather skinny trousers with knee-chain details show Sarria’s true mind at work. Inspired by past and present lovers entwined with the controlled chaos that the concrete streets of Manhattan has to offer, the sinister side of Sarria takes hold.
Carolina Sarria launched her first collection in a private 2012 fashion show. With an overwhelmingly positive response, the demand for Sarria’s pieces quickly grew. Sarria was encouraged by this auspicious beginning, and thus founded her namesake brand. The year of 2014 would be a game-changer: Carolina Sarria met young fashion designer Bianca Allen, and quickly formed a deep bond under the Carolina Sarria label. The two tastemakers established a collaborative team. Working together to manage and cultivate the Carolina Sarria brand, Sarria and Allen worked with rigor to make sure that the label evoked pure luxury. Exploring the idea of a woman’s right to challenge what it means to be feminine while celebrating their freedom to fully express themselves, Carolina Sarria’s DNA embodies pure elegance with a bit of a wild core.
