For the Fall./Winter 2017 season at London Fashion Week, designer Ashley Williams told the story of an alternative eco-goth girl who lived on a dairy farm. Or at least, that’s what it seemed. Eccentric and unexpected, classic plaid skirts in both midi and knee-length cuts were paired with street-cool hoodies and cropped ski jackets. And never the sort of designer to hold back, cowhide fringe and hibiscus prints were both fair game for the designer. Heels and sweatsuits looked ridiculously fabulous, and the overblown sleeves were a luxurious detail that elevated the rest of the collection’s more commercial appeal. Though sometimes unusual, Williams’s overall silhouette was quite cute and city-chic. Pieces like her cropped and tailored trousers always look smart, even if they’re paired with something as silly as a cowboy hat or a leather turtleneck.
