Empathetically moody and morose, the Chapter Autumn/Winter 2017 collection titled, “CONVERSION,” felt familiar and lived-in. Inspired by mindful intuition and an awareness of the past and present, muted colors were appropriately introspective and meek. Completely devoid of applique and embellishment (other than the odd chest pocket or so), the collection instead relied on relaxed silhouettes and pattern as it’s main mode of statement. Oversized coats and trousers channeled loungewear-esque silhouettes, emphasized even more so by stripes and buffalo-check plaids. As done in previous seasons, Chapter’s elevated take on casualwear is laudable. Everything from the drop-shoulders to the 2-button shirt plackets is so willfully articulated and thought out. Beautifully understated, Chapter continues to exist as a model for brands that transition the gap between luxury and streetwear markets.
