The word ‘Helio’ refers to the Latin word for that which relates to the sun. a mentality that played no part in Heliot Emil’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Instead, the collection was rooted in blacker hues of darkness. Playing off the usual streetwear tropes of bombers, hoodies, and sweatpants, as well as a sprinkling of more tailored motorcycle jackets and topcoats, the Copenhagen-based brand played to a muse more rooted in revolution than a boy of the light. Dark topcoats, ranging from denim toppers to a stand-out neon bomber, played well with with toned-down rebel basics – cue ripped denim and graphic tees. While helio may refer to sunshine, to lightness, there was no shortage of darkness threaded throughout the collection – case and point, a black gothic t-shirt with the words ‘he who endures to the end’. The lords of darkness are here.
