Before his ancestors sought refuge from Soviet rule, Thomas Balint was born into a family of former tailors who emigrated from Hungary to Canada. The designer follows his legacy of craftsmanship, fortitude and innovation in his designs, and with each collection we’re given a scope into the intricate workings of his creative mind.
From season to season and stitch to stitch, he institutes traditional patterns and bodices that reflects the heritage and culture of his grandparent’s youth. In his 2017 Autumn/Winter collection, he gives the wearer a taste of the Victorian era. The sharp tailoring in classic menswear staples is amped up with avant-garde necklines and bold sleeve lengths. Building on his collection’s narrative, stripes and florals correspond with a vintage palette. The collection features an array of car coats, blazers and trousers that are detailed with raw cut hems. Exemplified in every piece, Balint presents another collection that pays homage to a time of true design, hard work and resilience.
