Far more commercial than her work last season for her womenswear collection, Phoebe English’s latest at London Fashion Week Men’s was undoubtedly quieter and more subtle. Sticking with a safe palette of creamy whites and cool shades of blue in cotton-linen ensembles, the collection felt disappointingly lukewarm. However, the roped cording was a whimsical accent detail, and the sage green trousers appeared quite chic. The shorter variant, paired with a smock-like top and loose socks, was admittedly pretty cool and almost channeled a carefree, skater aesthetic native to the California coast. Though not a showstopper by any means, English’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection is sure to inspire high-street influence and lowbrow dress.
