Backed by mirrored spheres, the Harry Xu collection for Spring/Summer 2018 seemed to dress a sci-fi adventure. Holographic and reflective PVC constructions were undeniably space age, set against a background of muted pieces like tailored coats and jackets. As flashy as the collection was, however, it also can’t be ignored that Xu chose to incorporate sheer materials with floral handiwork. It was jarring to incorporate such a drastically different visual concept, but perhaps it was intentional. The incongruity between showy synthetic materials and effeminate draping might just be the contrast Xu was looking for.
